As of 12/06/2024, the containment procedures and description for SCP-9181 have undergone revision due to further understanding of SCP-9181's anomalous abilities. The original containment procedures and description can be found below.

ACCESS GRANTED

Outdated Containment Procedures: MTF Zeta-52 "Of The Deep" are to monitor the waters surrounding Lowri Island, and are to intercept and redirect any individuals who enter a 1km radius of the island. A cover story of a bird sanctuary and unpredictable tides are to be used to dissuade travel to or near the island. Personnel stationed at Site 914 are to constantly monitor Lowri Island for SCP-9181 at all times.

Individuals who have witnessed SCP-9181 and have been recovered should be administered Class A amnestics and to be redirected back inland. Individuals apprehended by SCP-9181 may be retrieved depending on the risk to Foundation personnel.

Outdated Description: SCP-9181 is a large tentacled entity, roughly about 16 meters in length and covered in wounds and sores. SCP-9181's anatomy is very similar to that of a giant squid (Architeuthis dux), with a beak and two tentacular clubs. SCP-9181 appears to be made of a material similar in nature to human flesh, and shares many active qualities of human flesh, albeit diseased and wounded. SCP-9181 appears to lack eyes of any kind, yet it is confirmed that the entity can see, how this is achieved is unknown. SCP-9181 possesses the anomalous ability to float through the air, and moves at about 7km/h, and also appears to not require water to survive. Attempts to sedate and remove SCP-9181 from Lowri Island are ongoing have failed, SCP-9181 cannot be removed from Lowri Island.

Attempts to remove SCP-9181 from Lowri Island have resulted in failure, as SCP-9181 will rapidly decay upon exiting a 50 meter range of Lowri Island until it inevitably becomes deceased. At this point, SCP-9181 will then begin to expand and bloat until it explodes with tremendous force, capable of capsizing Foundation vessels. SCP-9181 will then regrow in an unknown location upon SCP-9181, this regrowth has been recorded taking anywhere from 8 minutes to 2 hours. Upon regrowth, SCP-9181 will resume its behavior.

SCP-9181 is not impervious to damage, and can be wounded through most means. As of 12/14/2024, SCP-9181 has recovered from all damage inflicted upon it, and remains active regardless of its status.

Special Containment Procedures: Any individuals moving towards Lowri Island off the coast of Scotland are to be intercepted and redirected while using minimal force. Class A amnestics should be administered as needed to minimize attention drawn from intercepting wayward individuals. A cover story of an endangered bird sanctuary and an unpredictable tide are to be issued to dissuade travel to the island.

SCP-9181 is monitored through a surveillance system in Site 914, 6km away from the town of Doornoch, Scotland. MTF Zeta-52 "Of The Deep" are stationed at Site 914 and are on constant surveillance to apprehend and process potential anomalous entities that leave the island. Anomalous entities are then to be transported back to Site 914 for containment and potential termination. New anomalous entities should be reported to Dr. Heavener immediately (for a list of anomalous entities from SCP-9181, see Addendum 9181-a and Addendum 9181-b).

MTF Z-52 is to utilize one of the two modified dredging units every week to clean up falloff from SCP-9181. Due to SCP-9181's growth's requiring oxygen to survive, any growths underwater will inevitably decay and rot off into the surrounding water. Every Z-52 vessel is equipped with five respirators for use to avoid odor.

Description: SCP-9181 is the uninhabited area of Lowri Island off of the coast of Scotland. Lowri Island itself has remained uninhabited since discovery due to the anomalous effects it demonstrates as well as the newly anomalous local wildlife.

SCP-9181 itself is an island with anomalous properties and various anomalous wildlife. Non-anomalous wildlife is also present on SCP-9181, but as of 12/06/2024, anomalous wildlife have been recorded, labeled as SCP-9181-1 through SCP-9181-9.

The ground of SCP-9181 is near impenetrable, and digging into the ground of SCP-9181 becomes impossible after passing the topsoil. Beneath the topsoil is a hardened, chitinous-like layer, and has proven resilient to all forms of damage. SCP-9181 does have a singular entrance that manifests as a hole in the ground, and appears as non-anomalous at first glance. This entrance is capable of changing positions, and will be seen closing before reopening at a different location.

Entering into SCP-9181 through the entrance hole is a tedious procedure, and individuals attempting to enter it are unlikely to survive. The hole is comprised of multiple thorn-like protrusions that gradually turn into fangs the further one goes down the tunnel. It should be noted that these fangs take a short period to grow after the entrance opens. The tunnel itself also secretes an unidentified liquid, which is theorized to serve as lubricant to assist in transport of bodies. At the end of the tunnel is the entrance to the inner sanctum of SCP-9181 which resembles the stomach of farm cattle (Bos taurus) and has a large, blackened heart that hangs in the center of the stomach. The heart matches no recorded organism genetically, and studies to discover the heart's genetics are ongoing.

SCP-9181's anomalous abilities manifest when it is fed through the use of SCP-9181-1 or simply having feeding material enter into the stomach. Upon receiving stem cells, SCP-9181 will use the stem cells to form itself into an organic entity, and growths of disfigured flesh and skin covered in sores will appear around the island, and in some cases underneath it. If the flesh grows on land, any living organism that comes into contact with the flesh will spread the flesh to the organism, and will often give the organism anomalous abilities. Flesh that grows underneath the island will decay and rot without oxygen. Rotting flesh will split off of the island and float to the surface, congealing around the coast of SCP-9181.

SCP-9181-1 is a large squid-like entity, reaching around 16 meters in length, and possesses the ability to float through the air at recorded speeds of up to 24 kilometers per hour while in an active state. To this date, SCP-9181-1 has never been shown to leave SCP-9181. SCP-9181-1 is shown to have an anatomy very similar to a giant squid (Archteuthis dux), excluding a much smaller "beak" shaped similarly to a needle.

SCP-9181-1 is not to be removed from SCP-9181, and any attempts to do so have resulted in failure. Should SCP-9181-1 be removed from SCP-9181, SCP-9181-1 will begin to decay until it becomes deceased. At this point, SCP-9181-1 will begin to bloat, and will eventually explode with tremendous force, capable of capsizing Foundation vessels. Following this event, SCP-9181-1 will begin a regrowth process at a seemingly random spot back on SCP-9181. Pieces of SCP-9181-1 do not seem to exhibit this trait, and will behave as a non anomalous limb.

SCP-9181-1 remains in a "neutral" state when no individuals are present upon the island, and during this state SCP-9181-1 will either drift aimlessly around the island or will enter into SCP-9181 and lie dormant inside of its stomach.

When an individual lands on SCP-9181, SCP-9181-1 will enter its "active" state. While in an active state, SCP-9181-1 will halt all behavior and begin approaching the individual, hereafter referred to as the "target". SCP-9181-1's behavior when pursuing a target varies, but SCP-9181-1 often chooses to stalk the target before apprehending them. When SCP-9181-1 reaches the target, it will attempt to seize the target by any means and then attempt to forcefully inject its "beak" into the target's chest or stomach area, where it will then begin to drain stem cells from the target. This state is referred to as the "feeding" state. SCP-9181-1 can be damaged, and firearms have proven effective at halting SCP-9181-1's attack (though this is only temporarily, as SCP-9181-1 has demonstrated immense regenerative capabilities).

While in the feeding state, SCP-9181-1 can be fought off of the target and will release a target if it has sustained sufficient damage. If allowed to feed without interruption, the loss of stem cells will cause the target's skin to strain and slough off. If SCP-9181-1 is allowed to feed uninterrupted, SCP-9181-1 will then drag the corpse of the target to the current entrance into SCP-9181. What becomes of the stem cells is unknown. Stem cells collected by SCP-9181-1 are transferred into SCP-9181 through its heart. It has since been understood that patches of flesh from SCP-9181's stem cells are hazardous, and are the cause of the rise of anomalous activity currently present on SCP-9181. Due to this, D-Class exploration and testing with SCP-9181 is to be discontinued for the foreseeable future.

Discovery: SCP-9181 was discovered following a string of disappearances of tourists from the towns of Doornoch, Embo and Littleferry. Local legends in the area had depicted the island as taboo, and encouraged all to avoid the area. Foundation personnel stationed at a nearby site became aware of the island when a news reporter mentioned that all individuals had been within vicinity of the island. A search of the surrounding area and waters found a evidence of a prior Anglan civilization established near the island; writings left behind by the civilization described the island as "the test", and families seemingly sent their children to SCP-9181 to prove their worth. Foundation personnel spotted SCP-9181-1 when patrolling within the area and established a quarantine zone immediately. Below is Dr. Heavener's interview for the Lead Researcher position, and the first exploration log into SCP-9181.

ACCESS GRANTED

Interviewed: Dr. Austin Heavener

Interviewer: Site Director Kamden Orwell

Foreword: Upon the discovery and designation of Lowri Island as SCP-9181, Dr. Austin Heavener was considered for the role following his previous work with the Foundation and from Site Director Kamden Orwell's recommendation for the position. Senior Researcher Sullivan Blythe shadowed the interview to ensure that Orwell was unbiased in the interview, as Dr. Heavener and Director Orwell were friends at a young age, and Director Orwell initiated contact between Dr. Heavener and the Foundation.

<Begin Log>

[Director Orwell and Senior Researcher Blythe are seated at the interview table when Orwell begins the recording and positions the camera on the middle of the table. Director Orwell then clicks a button]

Director Orwell: You may enter, Dr. Heavener.

[Dr. Heavener enters the room, closing the door behind him and taking his seat at the table.]

Dr. Heavener: Thank you.

Director Orwell: So, a new anomaly has been discovered on Lowri Island. Nothing potentially world-ending, but it is a hostile entity. We are informing you of this because you are being considered for the position of head researcher.

Sr. Researcher Blythe: We have reviewed both your resume and your record of your time with the Foundation, and have found them both to be above expectations.

Director Orwell: This anomaly would be perfect for you to begin with. It has yet to leave Lowri Island, and is harmless unless someone steps onto the island. We have plans to establish a surveillance system on the island to facilitate containment, but as of now the entity is contained by the island itself.

Dr. Heavener: That sounds quite interesting, I assume there is already talk of establishing an MTF?

Sr. Researcher Blythe: Yes, we are currently looking through and picking out those who have experience in naval fleets and oceanic patrols.

[Director Orwell nods and reads Dr. Heavener's record again for a moment.]

Director Orwell: You have no major disciplinary hearings outside of… a cafeteria incident?

[Dr. Heavener chuckles and covers his mouth.]

Director Orwell: I assure you, Isaiah had that one coming.

Sr. Researcher Blythe: Yes, well, despite this blemish on your record, you seem like a good fit.

Director Orwell: Then we are in agreement, on behalf of the Foundation, we would like to offer this promotion to Head Researcher to you, Dr. Austin Heavener. Do you accept?

Dr. Heavener: (Nodding) I do, I am honored to receive this position.

[Director Orwell extends her hand over the table, as does Sr. Researcher Blythe. Dr. Heavener quickly takes their hands and shakes them eagerly.]

Director Orwell: I know you'll be a perfect fit. I can't wait to see your career blossom!

Closing Statement: Dr. Heavener is established as the Head Researcher of SCP-9181 with supervision from both Director Orwell and Senior Researcher Blythe.

Exploration: D-80068

Subject: Initial SCP-9181 Exploration

Exploration Lead: Dr. Austin Heavener

After anomalous properties were confirmed by the presence of SCP-9181 on land, a D-Class was given a camera and was escorted to Lowri Island for further investigation. The camera was recovered by nearby MTF without incident.

Note: This log was taken prior to the discovery of Lowri Island's anomalous properties, this exploration was performed with the intention of discovering SCP-9181-1's anomalous properties.

[BEGIN LOG]

D-80068: So why in the hell do ya'll have me out here in the midst of the ocean with a camera and a little kid's science kit?

Dr. Heavener: Not important, D-80068, please proceed into the treeline.

D-80068 pauses before the treeline, breathing is audibly louder than before.

D-80068: This'll shorten my sentence, right?

Dr. Heavener: Cooperate and I'll put in a good word for you.

D-80068: Was that a damn joke?

Dr. Heavener: I guess you don't mind that life sentence then.

[Note: This remark was said with a joking tone. Dr. Heavener received a disciplinary warning for his unprofessional behavior.]

D-80068: No no no, I'm going, I'm going.

D-80068's camera breaks the treeline. A clearing is visible with a few shrubs and rays of sun poking through the canopy above. SCP-9181-1 is barely visible in the distance near a tree, but neither D-80068 or Dr. Heavener seem to notice.

D-80068: Woah. It's quite… pretty.

Dr. Heavener: Noted, keep going.

D-80068: Which direction?

Dr. Heavener: Let's just go straight for now, past those trees ahead.

D-80068: Alright Mr. Researcher Man.

D-80068 continues forward, passing a grove of trees and a couple types of wildlife that Dr. Heavener prompts D-80068 to document. SCP-9181-1 has vanished from view. A screech is recorded on the audio which causes D-80068 to pause momentarily.

D-80068: Please don't tell me to go see what that was.

Dr. Heavener: I'm sorry, you know the drill.

D-80068 sighs before proceeding, albeit slower than before. D-80068 passes by a number of trees before arriving near where the audio was picked up.

D-80068: I'm not really seeing anything here.

Dr. Heavener: Stop. In front of you, to the right of that tree, I see something moving.

D-80068 pauses before getting closer.

D-80068: Shit, you're right.

D-80068 approaches the mass on the ground, the camera angles downwards where a harvest mouse (micromys minutus) is writhing on the floor. The mouse's leg seems stuck to the floor in a fleshy, greasy unknown substance. The mouse is screeching loudly, drowning out the sounds of wildlife on the island.

D-80068: What in the hell is that?

Dr. Heavener: D-80068, use the test tube and scissors you have to take a sample.

D-80068: To take a what?

Dr. Heavener: Use the scissors to cut a piece of tissue from both the ground and the rodent please.

D-80068: I think I would rather take the lethal injection at this point.

Dr. Heavener: Congratulations, we're past that point, now cut a piece out of it before something goes wrong. I want to get you out of there as soon as I can.

D-80068 sighs before proceeding to take a sample of both, setting the camera down on the floor to do so. The camera rises and falls slowly.

Dr. Heavener: D-80068, did you place the camera on a flat surface?

D-80068: About as flat as I could find, why?

Dr. Heavener: Is the camera moving?

D-80068: What? How would it be-

D-80068 pauses, seeing the camera rising and falling.

D-80068: Holy shit…

Dr. Heavener: Get a soil sample as well and then head back towards the shoreline, MTF should be waiting for you.

D-80068 finishes taking a sample from all 3 sources, and begins placing the soil sample into the tube. At this point, SCP-9181-1 becomes visible on the camera as it floats out from behind a tree about 18 meters behind D-80068. It begins to slowly drift towards D-80068 until Dr. Heavener notices it.

Dr. Heavener: D-80068, move!

SCP-9181-1 leaps forward as Dr. Heavener speaks, and latches its tentacles onto D-80068, who yelps in shock. The camera begins to rise and fall faster, moving D-80068 out of view, then back again repeatedly. D-80068's screams are cut off as SCP-9181-1 wraps a tentacle around his throat. A few choking noises are all that emerge from D-80068's throat as SCP-9181-1 moves its beak towards D-80068's chest. Wet gurgles of breath and wet slurping sounds are heard for 3 minutes and 32 seconds before they gradually fall silent. D-80068's body gradually thins until his bones are visible. The camera is suddenly lifted into the air by a damaged tentacle before SCP-9181-1 begins to inspect the camera. SCP-9181-1 then throws the camera at a nearby tree. The lens shatters and the camera lands facing a hole in the ground. SCP-9181-1 is shown dragging the now deceased D-80068 over to a spot in the floor, where it floats down into the hole, dragging D-80068's corpse behind it. The hole closes up 4 minutes and 41 seconds later. The camera records for another 45 minutes before the battery dies.

[END LOG]

Afterword: The camera of D-80068 was recovered without incident by MTF, however the samples collected by D-80068 were unable to be located. The hole shown at the end of the footage was also unable to be found. MTF agents were also able to establish a surveillance system throughout SCP-9181 and were able to successfully avoid casualties by SCP-9181-1. Small arms fire proves effective at delaying SCP-9181-1, but is not a permanent solution.

Note: Dr. Heavener received a disciplinary hearing for his unprofessional behavior during this operation. Following the discovery of flesh on the surface of Lowri Island as well as the moving entrance, SCP-9181 has been reclassified as Lowri Island itself, and the original SCP-9181 will be now referred to as SCP-9181-1.

Memo from Dr. Heavener: Postpone all exploration or testing with D-Class for at least a week. I want to utilize the surveillance system to study SCP-9181 without external stimuli. Also flag SCP-9181-1 as a possible memetic hazard, my head is pounding after reviewing the footage.

Following the discovery of SCP-9181's nature and redesignation of SCP-9181-1, another exploration was attempted. This attempt utilized an unmanned drone to both avoid the further loss of D-Class personnel as well as belief that an individual could not survive entering into the hole that leads into SCP-9181. MTF unit Z-52-4 was assigned to Dr. Heavener's exploration efforts due to his prior time as a military drone operator.

Exploration: Corporal Derrick Monteer, Designation Zeta-52-4

Subject: Unmanned SCP-9181 Exploration

Exploration Lead: Dr. Austin Heavener

Z-52-4 was given personal selection of equipment for the second exploration, and chose a lightweight drone with an arm and a needle on the end. Z-52-4 manned and piloted the drone while Dr. Heavener observed findings and directed Z-52-4. The entrance to SCP-9181 is located and confirmed before the drone is sent.

[BEGIN VIDEO]

Z-52-4 is seen preparing the drone with Dr. Heavener sitting just off to the side, holding his head in his hands.

Z-52-4: You alright, sir?

Dr. Heavener: Yeah, yeah I'm alright. Just a migraine.

Z-52-4: The drone is ready, anything else I should know before this?

Dr. Heavener: There's a lot we don't know about this thing. Just remain cautious, after it killed D-80068 it picked up the camera before throwing it. So I wouldn't be surprised if it could piece together that the drone is a hostile threat.

Dr. Heavener is seen shifting slightly in his chair while saying this.

Z-52-4: Any reason we're on a boat sir? I'm quite confident in my abilities, but I wouldn't be opposed to landing on the bank for this.

Dr. Heavener: (Small chuckle) Unfortunately we cannot. SCP-9181 seems to always know when someone makes landfall on the island, merely being on the bank would likely be enough for it to pursue us. I'm sure your skills will be more than sufficient, Corporal.

Z-52-4: I'll try not to disappoint sir, are we still good on the entrance?

Dr. Heavener is silent for a moment while tapping on a tablet before giving a thumbs up.

Dr. Heavener: We still have visual on the opening, we're green.

Z-52-4 grabs the controller and sits on the side of the boat, now focused onto the tablet in front of him. The drone lifts off and begins to fly inland. After about 1 minute, the drone approaches the entrance and slowly begins to descend into the hole.

Dr. Heavener: It's a tight squeeze through the entrance, be careful with the drone. We don't know anything else past the first few meters into the hole, so be ready for anything.

Z-52-4: Understood sir.

The drone descends into the hole further, the walls gradually shift more into a red hue and the thorns become more bone-like. This continues until the tunnel itself appears to be a tube of flesh and veins run along the walls. Z-52-4 does not hit any of the walls and avoids all thorns successfully. There is a notable substance dripping off of the walls of the entrance.

Z-52-4: Should I get a sample?

Dr. Heavener: Can you manage it without losing the drone?

Z-52-4: I'm certain of it.

Dr. Heavener: Then please do.

Z-52-4 directs the drone to collect a sample using the drone's needle, then continues to proceed down the tunnel. The fangs jutting from the walls are shown to be moving slightly, and seem to respond to the drone's presence in the tunnel and appear to "reach" for the drone. Z-52-4 is able to navigate the tunnel without issue, and emerges into the inside of SCP-9181.

Dr. Heavener: Good God…

The feed shows the inside of the stomach, which seemingly spans for many kilometers. The surrounding walls are constantly moving and a thudding noise is heard from further into the stomach. Many different shapes are littered along the edges of the stomach, seemingly fused to the walls of it.

Dr. Heavener: Can you get closer to that thing, along the wall?

The drone drifts closer to the wall, revealing the shapes to each be human bodies, almost mummified. Some of the bodies are pressed further into the walls, and are almost unidentifiable, while others are fresh. One body is notably covered in a faded orange jumpsuit. Upon further inspection, the body is confirmed to be that of D-80068, though the body appears to have sustained numerous lacerations from being pulled through the tunnel.

Dr. Heavener: Shit…

Z-52-4: Orders, sir?

Dr. Heavener: Just, look away from him, move the camera further in.

Dr. Heavener asks Z-52-4 to move the drone further into the stomach, which reveals a large organ hanging from the roof of the stomach. The thudding noise becomes much more audible at this point. The organ has many strips of flesh holding it on the ceiling and many different tubes that twist and stab into different parts of the stomach. As the drone approaches, it becomes apparent that the organ is a "heart" as it pulses and pumps. The heart is nearly black in color and has many jagged edges along with a pointed tip at the bottom. At the end of the tip is SCP-9181-1, which appears to have been skewered through its beak.

Dr. Heavener: Would you be able to get a sample of the organ without disturbing SCP-9181-1?

Z-52-4: Yes sir, give me a moment.

Z-52-4 moves the drone closer to the heart, and extends the needle. Upon contact, the needle begins to draw a black liquid out of the heart. After filling the syringe, Z-52-4 withdraws the needle, which lets out a strange sloshing noise. Dr. Heavener is heard vomiting off the side of the boat. Z-52-4 moves the drone towards the exit, before noticing that SCP-9181-1 is no longer present below the heart.

Z-52-4: Lost contact with SCP-9181-1, I'm gonna get this thing out!

Z-52-4 directs the drone towards the exit, and manages to make it to the tunnel again. Z-52-4 attempts to angle the drone to fit through the hole. SCP-9181-1 is still unseen. Z-52-4 begins moving the drone through the tunnel at a much more accelerated pace than before. SCP-9181-1 enters the tunnel behind the drone, and begins moving after it in a much more accelerated pace than before. Z-52-4 is able to maintain a lead, and rapidly approaches the exit of the tunnel. The drone breaches the surface, but is yanked down by SCP-9181-1. Z-52-4 continues to accelerate the drone, but the drone is slowly pulled back underground.

Z-52-4: Permission to do something risky, sir?

Dr. Heavener: Do what you need to.

Z-52-4 turns the drone to the side and extends the syringe arm, then rotates and pins SCP-9181-1's tentacle between the arm and the drone. Z-52-4 then begins to accelerate and manages to resurface. The drone and SCP-9181-1 pull against one another for 34 seconds before a loud rip is audible and the drone shoots into the sky. Z-52-4 sighs in relief as the drone turns back towards the ship.

[END LOG]

Afterword: The drone was recovered with minor damage and all samples intact. Z-52-4 managed to also extract one of SCP-9181-1's tentacles for further study.

Note: Z-52-4 received a commendation and promotion for his expertise and skill in acquiring additional samples for study.

Addendum 9181-a: As of 12/06/2024, wildlife on SCP-9181 has started to become anomalous through direct contact with infected patches of soil on SCP-9181. Any wildlife exhibiting anomalous properties is to be captured and contained immediately for further study. If containment of anomalous wildlife is not possible, wildlife is to be exterminated. A full log of SCP-9181-2 through SCP-9181-6 are listed below.

Designation

Description

Anomalous Properties

Containment

SCP-9181-2

Subject appears to be a Venomous Adder (Vipera berus) with thorns sprouting out of its body. SCP-8191 infection is apparent on the entire underbelly of the adder.

Subject's venom was found to be replaced with an unknown acidic compound. Subject periodically ceases all life functions before restoring to life.

Subject successfully contained with little issue.

SCP-9181-3

Subject appears to be a Viviparous Lizard with two heads and an additional leg, measuring about 8 centimeters. SCP-8191 infection is apparent on the lizard's spine.

Excluding the subject's additional limbs, the subject lashes out at any individual nearby and attempts to devour their skin. Note: Genetic samples of SCP-9181-3 have slight matches to the DNA of D-80068.

Subject was successfully contained on-site after 3 escapes. Subject was found to be unable to burrow through lead lined tungsten steel.

SCP-9181-4

Subject appears to be a middle-aged Caucasian male with green eyes and blonde hair. Subject has a large tumor growing out of their spine. SCP-9181 infection is apparent in the tumor itself.

Subject bears somewhat of a resemblance to Dr. Heavener, and always seemed to follow Dr. Heavener with its head. Subject's head seemed to have no restrictions on movement, and moved 360 degrees to follow Dr. Heavener. Note: This is the first instance of SCP-9181 producing a humanoid.

Subject was contained for 5 days, during which subject demonstrated no further anomalous properties. Subject was terminated at Dr. Heavener's request with Site Director Orwell's approval.

SCP-9181-5

Subject appeared to be a genetic cross of an anglerfish (Lophius piscatorius) and an olive baboon (Papio anubis), sporting the head of the anglerfish and the body of the baboon. Subject was of average size for an olive baboon. SCP-9181 infection is apparent on the neck which separates the two animals.

Subject expelled a constant gas within its immediate area. Further analysis of the gas determined that its makeup consisted of 86% chlorine gas with 24% of an unidentified compound. Studies to determine the origin of the compound are ongoing. Subject behaved aggressively towards all personnel.

Subject successfully contained with relative ease.

SCP-9181-6

Subject appears to be a Red Deer (Cervus elephus) with a long slit along its stomach that reaches from its throat to its tail.

Subject is able to produce flesh-covered spheres from the cut in its stomach, which explode after a varied amount of time, leaving an unknown acidic substance behind. Subject screams violently when in the presence of an individual, and accelerates the production of the explosive spheres. SCP-9181 infection is not apparent.

Subject was contained after the loss of 2 staff. Subject is not to be used in D-Class testing.

SCP-9181-7

Subject appears as a harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) with no fins or external limbs. Subject's eyes are bloodshot and bloated out of their sockets.

Subject possesses no natural organs, and instead has an organ structure mostly similar to that of SCP-9181 itself. The DNA from SCP-9181's heart and the heart of SCP-9181-7 are a 99% match.

Subject successfully contained with little issue.

Addendum 9181-b: Following the emergence of SCP-9181-4, the Foundation has withdrawn subjects from SCP-9181 and halted all D-Class testing indefinitely. Following the emergence of SCP-9181-6, no other instances of SCP-9181 have been recorded (see Addendum 9181-c).

Interviewed: Dr. Austin Heavener

Interviewer: Site Director Kamden Orwell

Foreword: Following the emergence of SCP-9181-4 and the incident concerning SCP-9181-6, Dr. Heavener's work ethic and performance had a noticeable shift. Director Orwell arranged a check-in with Dr. Heavener to assess Heavener's mental state and potential need for removal from SCP-9181. The beginning of the interview has been removed for brevity.

Director Orwell: Anyways, that's not the entire reason I brought you here today.

Dr. Heavener: I figured.

Director Orwell: What's going on, Austin? It's clear something is bothering you, and you're doing a pretty poor job at hiding it.

Dr. Heavener: I keep seeing his face in my dreams.

Director Orwell: Who's?

Dr. Heavener: That D-Class, D-80068.

Director Orwell: Well, that's why we have protocol for D-Class testing.

[Director Orwell pauses for a moment to read a portion of the exploration log again.]

Director Orwell: It is a disturbing concept but it is one that we must continue to utilize for the greater good. Just remember, these are killers and rapists. They were heading for the chair, but are given this opportunity to do something good with their lives.

Dr. Heavener: I know, I know, but I don't think this is just because of how I talked to the D-Class. I keep having a nightmare where I'm in that… thing, and I'm stuck to one of its walls, forced to stare at the petrified corpse of D-80068.

Director Orwell: These things happen when you're dealing with something that is this disturbing, if I had-

Dr. Heavener: No, no, it's more than just that. His eyes are long gone but I can feel him still staring at me. His gaze is like stone, it never breaks away. Then he speaks, it's always the same sentence. "It must feed, it must grow."

Director Orwell: I saw you mark down that SCP-9181 is a potential memetic hazard. Yeah, right here.

[Director Orwell points at the bottom of the log, where Dr. Heavener's handwritten note lies.]

Director Orwell: Do you still think that?

Dr. Heavener: I haven't had a good night's rest in many days, I know I'm not nearly as tenured as you or anyone else here, but I don't think this would worm into my head this badly if it wasn't.

Director Orwell: Okay. I can get you paired with a Foundation psychologist, the best we have to offer, and we can see if that could help. We can also offer some amnestics, but that would be in limited supply and there's no guarantee it would get this taken care of.

Dr. Heavener: Please, anything to make this just a little easier.

[Director Orwell scribbles down on a note for a moment, then returns to the conversation.]

Director Orwell: I'll get those requests in and shoot you an email when we have a set time for your treatments.

Dr. Heavener: (Sighing deeply) Thank you Kamden, thank you so much.

Director Orwell: Don't thank me yet, we have to discuss the next week still. Someone will still need to be in charge of SCP-9181's studies and research. I'm sorry Austin, but I have to transfer the position to someone else while you recuperate.

Dr. Heavener: What? No, No I can handle it, I'll double my efforts, you can't just take this away from me. Do you realize how hard I worked to get to this point?!

Director Orwell: It's either that or I have to move you to another site and another entity entirely. I don't want to have to do that Austin, but I'm running out of options and you seem less and less stable by the day. I think a vacation might even help. Take the next week off, and then come back and get your amnestics and therapy and then you can take the position right back.

Dr. Heavener: What makes you think it's going to stop because I left the site? Haven't most memetic hazards left damage on people's mental states?

Director Orwell: It's the best we can really do right now, I'm sorry Austin. We can see if this works and if it doesn't at least you don't have Foundation work to worry about and you can maybe get some rest. Then you can come back and let the amnestics do their job.

Dr. Heavener sighs, and reluctantly nods his head.

Director Orwell: You're just overworked, it's okay, it happens to the best of us. Just try to relax, please. You'll be back at it before you know it.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: Director Orwell's approach to Dr. Heavener's issue can be seen as biased due to friendship. However, due to the incident that followed, Director Orwell was only lightly reprimanded.

Incident 9181-01

01/03/2025

Note: 3 hours following the interview between Dr. Austin Heavener and Site Director Kamden Orwell, the Z-52 vessel on-duty and Dr. Heavener both went missing in the early morning. Foundation personnel were alerted when Z-52-5 was unable to locate the MTF vessel at 01:41.

[BEGIN LOG]

Incident 9181-1

01:32: The registered MTF Z-52 unit is seen approaching the dock to change shifts. Z-52-6 and Z-52-8 step off of the boat. Z-52-6 and Z-52-8 are seen walking in the direction of the canteen.

Note: This is a severe breach of protocol, Z-52 members are ordered to await their replacement before leaving their vessel unattended. Z-52-6 and Z-52-8 were severely reprimanded.

01:33: Dr. Heavener walks into frame, and approaches the boat. Heavener turns to look up at the camera, his face is visibly red. Dr. Heavener approaches and boards the vessel. Z-52's vessel leaves the port.

Note: The Foundation vessel is not seen again for nearly 20 minutes, Site 914 had entered lockdown. The employee on-site responsible for monitoring sitewide cameras was noticeably called to Dr. Heavener's office shortly before Dr. Heavener boarded the vessel. The employee did not return until Dr. Heavener had already left Site 914.

01:53: The Foundation vessel reappears on the camera pointed at the water on SCP-9181, Dr. Heavener is seen on-board. Dr. Heavener docks the boat on the very edge of the island, and disappears from view for a few moments, before reappearing while wearing Z-52-8's vest, and Dr. Heavener is now armed with a Foundation issue rifle. Dr. Heavener sits on the side of the boat for a moment, placing his head in his hands.

01:55: Dr. Heavener rises to his feet, and approaches the edge of the boat. Dr. Heavener leaps onto land and falls over before taking a moment to regain his footing. He then proceeds further into SCP-9181.

02:14: Dr. Heavener roams the island for nearly 25 minutes before coming upon the entrance to SCP-9181. SCP-9181-1 is strangely absent from any recordings. Dr. Heavener pauses for a moment before squeezing himself into the entrance and disappearing from view.

02:36: A very faint explosion is heard and the ground shakes. A screech is then heard from the southwest end of SCP-9181.

02:51: Dr. Heavener emerges from within SCP-9181, his upper torso and body visible and very heavily scarred. Dr. Heavener is also coated in the unknown substance from SCP-9181's tunnel. Dr. Heavener yelps and cries out in pain before getting out of the hole entirely, as if something has snagged him. Dr. Heavener yells in pain as he lifts himself out of the hole, which reveals his torn up leg. Dr. Heavener audibly curses the thorns in the tunnel, before SCP-9181-1 drifts into view. Dr. Heavener fails to notice until SCP-9181-1 grabs Dr. Heavener by his throat and stabs its beak into Dr. Heavener's back. Dr. Heavener manages to fire a shot into SCP-9181-1, which causes SCP-9181-1 to momentarily let go. Dr. Heavener attempts to escape, but his leg snaps and gives way, causing Dr. Heavener to fall out of view of the camera. Dr. Heavener screams before SCP-9181-1 apprehends him again. Shots are fired at SCP-9181-1, who backs off temporarily, but continually returns to its feeding state. Dr. Heavener screams off camera as SCP-9181-1 enters a feeding state. Yells and protests are heard for 3 minutes and 23 seconds until they gradually die out.

03:21: SCP-9181-1 is seen dragging Dr. Heavener's body into the entrance to SCP-9181. Dr. Heavener's leg rips off of his body and is left on the surface. The entrance to SCP-9181 closes.

[END LOG]

Afterword: Dr. Heavener's disappearance was not noticed until 39 minutes after the lockdown on Site 914 ended. Upon review of the footage, it was decided that a rescue operation would not be attempted, and Dr. Heavener is to be considered lost. Upon another unmanned drone exploration, it was discovered that Dr. Heavener had damaged the heart of SCP-9181 using plastic explosives found on the vessel as well as standard hand grenades and gunfire. Continued monitoring of SCP-9181's heart has proven the heart has begun regenerating.

Addendum-9181-c: Following the events of Incident 9181, two more anomalies emerged from SCP-9181. Upon testing, it was discovered that both anomalies were at least a 56% DNA match with Dr. Heavener's on-site record. No further anomalous entities have been recorded.

Designation

Description

Anomalous Properties

Containment

SCP-9181-8

Subject appears to be a Scottish wildcat (Felis silvestris silvestris) of abnormal proportions, standing at 2 meters tall, and displays intense aggression at all life.

Subject's claws exhibit properties similar to SCP-9181-1's effect. Upon cutting skin, subject's claws steal stem cells from the target, and prevent the wound from closing. SCP-9181 infection is evident on subject's paws.

Subject successfully contained and cleared for D-Class testing.

SCP-9181-9

Subject appears to be a brown bear (Ursus arctos) without a visible head. The subject has a large hole where its head would normally be. Subject is surprisingly docile towards individuals. Note: Brown bears have been considered extinct in Scotland for over 1,000 years.

Subject makes vocalizations when a Foundation employee enters within a 5 meter radius of the subject. Vocalizations are made exclusively in Dr. Heavener's voice, and only one vocalization has been recorded - "It must feed. It must grow."

Subject successfully contained. D-Class testing pending.

The following note was discovered on Dr. Heavener's desk after his disappearance was reported.

I'm sorry. It's gone too far, I can't sleep, I can't function, I can't even live. It wants to be fed, so I'll feed it.

If I can't manage to kill it, please kill it. Forget about containment, it has to die, it won't stop eating until it consumes everything. It will spiral out of control faster than can be controlled. The Foundation won't even be able to stop it. You haven't seen what it has shown me, the hell it will unleash will mean the end of everything.

Kamden, I'm so sorry. Everything you've done for me and I just throw it away like this. You've been better to me than I deserve.

Goodbye.

Note from Senior Researcher Blythe: It should be noted that SCP-9181 is nowhere close to breaching containment, and the growth process in the event that SCP-9181 does receive stem cells is minor at most. I am suggesting an increase in the experience required for work on SCP-9181, and a potential revision of staff to ensure memetic hazards have minimum impact.
